Valetec (Vale do Sinos Technology Park) now counts with the first Biotech Company. FK Biotecnologia S.A is a national company that develops research on human immunodiagnosis and autologous anticancer vaccine.” The establishment of FK Biotec at Valetec may attract new companies into this sector”, affirms Cleber Prodanov, the new Feevale´s Vice- Rector of Innovation and Research. Prodanov says that one of their goals is the business expansion of the Park.

The acquisition of the area at Valetec has already been signed and the construction of the facility will start next semester. The unit will be divided into three sectors:  a commercial and administrative department, a biological sanitizing product plant, and a diagnostic kit production plant. The unit will create about 200 direct and indirect jobs. “It is important to highlight that this investment will provide highly valued jobs. Almost 60% of our employees hold a doctorate degree” says Fernando Thomé Kreutz, CEO at BK Biotec.

According to Faisal Karam, Campo Bom Mayor, says that this kind of partnership reassures the mission of Vale do Sinos which is to foster growth in the technology area. Apart from encouraging production diversification, the setting up of the company will increase income and employment levels. Ieda Lauxen, Tourism and Economy and Development Secretary of Campo Bom, points out that the installation of FK Biotec at the industrial park, a company which is recognized national and international in the area of biotechnological products and services, will be a great step forward for the regional development. 

 Nowadays, Brazil is not producing biopharmaceuticals and this causes a deficit in this industry in the country. Even so, only the diagnostic and biopharmaceuticals industry, which will be set up at FK industrial plant at Valetec, deals with R$ 10 billion per year in Brazil and this reinforces the importance of the establishment of FK for the region and the country.                                                            

The project of FK Biotec at Valetec is focused, primarily, on diagnostic kit production, biological sanitizing product, and probably on biopharmaceuticals. The products that will be manufactured are: solutions for chikungunya disease, and nanotechnological products such as pesticides, repellents and larvicides.
