Eduardo Müller, professor of Digital Games, Animation Design, and Audiovisual Production at Feevale University, created his version of the label for the bottles of Tama no Hikari, a traditional Japanese sake manufacturer. In celebration of its 350th anniversary, the company decided to innovate in its bottle labels and, through the 350X project, invited illustrators to create their versions, mixing tradition with the innovation of contemporary art games.

The limited edition of sake bottles was launched this month by the Japanese collective Skeleton Crew Studio. EdH Müller, as he is known, is the only non-Asian illustrator since the beginning of the project, which is in its third edition. The series' motto is "sake bottles as blank canvases." The themes of the previous editions were "love" and "friendship," while the theme of this third edition is "betrayal," referring to new expressions that transcend existing values and betray expectations in a positive way.

EdH says that participants were asked to create an illustration that innovatively represented the tradition of sake within Japanese culture, involving the concept of betrayal, not in a negative sense, but one that will surprise whoever drinks this sake. He says that in January of this year, he had the opportunity to go to Japan, where he saw many bands and young people walking with guitars and equipment through the streets, going to rehearse or play somewhere. “I thought it was really cool to see how rock is part of Japanese culture, so I ended up making an illustration that mixes this concept,” he points out.

EdH's illustration depicts a rock girl inside a studio, drinking sake while rehearsing, as if it were something that is part of this whole. “I really enjoyed doing this work. I've had all kinds of clients, but I never imagined that one day I would work with a Japanese brand, especially a sake brand, such a traditional and different drink, considering the type of art I do. It was a very unusual job!” she emphasizes.

The courses he coordinates receive top marks

As a course coordinator, EdH Müller celebrates the top score of 5 that the Digital Games, Animation Design, and Audiovisual Production courses received in the MEC (Brazilian Ministry of Education) evaluation. For him, the result demonstrates the solidity and integration of the creative areas at Feevale University. The result demonstrates the quality of the faculty and infrastructure of these courses, strengthening the institutional commitment to training highly qualified professionals. “I consider this process extremely important, as it reinforces the quality of the courses we offer. The areas of games, animation, and audiovisual form an ecosystem that interacts and complements each other. Therefore, seeing the three courses together achieving the maximum score is very relevant,” says the professor.
