Activities take place on Mondays at João Goulart Elementary School and on Wednesdays at the University's Campus II.
Feevale University begins a new class of free Portuguese classes for foreigners next Monday, the 25th, at the João Goulart Municipal Basic Education School in Novo Hamburgo. The classes, offered through the Human Rights Education Center (Ceduca DH) project, are geared towards migrants and refugees and are held in partnership with Novo Hamburgo City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Education (SMED), and with support from the Sicredi Social Fund, which made it possible to expand the activities to this new location.
The new class will have 35 spaces and classes will be held every Monday at 6:30 pm, at Rua Finlândia, 507 – Petrópolis neighborhood. Those interested can register on site, shortly before the first class, presenting an identity document (RNM, CPF or passport) and proof of address.
In addition to EMEB João Goulart, the project also offers classes at Feevale University's Campus II, every Wednesday at 6:30 pm. This class began this Wednesday, the 20th, and continues with regular activities. The goal of the classes is to promote the social and cultural inclusion of foreign residents in the region, strengthening their communication, community integration, and access to rights and public services.
Coordinated by Professor Márcia Blanco Cardoso, the Ceduca DH project has happened since 2016 to welcome migrants and refugees. In addition to Portuguese language workshops, the initiative offers free legal assistance, workshops on Brazilian reality and creativity, and initiatives to combat xenophobia and raise community awareness.
"The expansion of activities is an important achievement for the region's migrant community. Our goal is to welcome, integrate, and guarantee access to information and rights, promoting a more just and respectful coexistence," says Professor Márcia. Since its creation, Ceduca DH has served hundreds of people from countries such as Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, Tunisia, Senegal, among others.
