Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are linked to the University's Social Responsibility Policy
Feevale University is part of the United Nations Academic Impact (Unai), an initiative of the United Nations (UN) that unifies higher education institutions committed to meeting global goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a member of the network, the Institution encourages new actions linked to these principles, and recognizes those that are already directed to them.
The Sustainable Development Goals are a global call to end poverty, protect the environment and ensure that people around the world have a better and more sustainable future, enjoying peace and prosperity. Feevale also links these principles to its Social Responsibility Policy, which formalizes its commitment to the social development of the regions where it operates.
The consolidation of this policy reveals an effort by the University in the perspective of responding, with creativity and innovation, to the challenges posed by contemporary society and expressed, including in normative acts of the Ministry of Education (MEC) and its related bodies, such as the National Council of Education (CNE) and the National Commission for the Assessment of Higher Education (Conaes), which encourage universities to guide their policies and actions with social responsibility. The Dean of Education, Angelita Renck Gerhardt, says that the Associação Pró-Ensino Superior em Novo Hamburgo (Aspeur) and the Feevale University were conceived, in their origin, to guarantee training at the undergraduate level for young people and professionals in the region. “Thus, qualified, innovative and entrepreneurial undergraduate education, aligned with the demands of the region, demonstrates the realization of the Institution's essential social responsibility towards people, companies and entities that created it, and that continue to justify its existence”, she emphasizes.
The Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Extension, Fernando Rosado Spilki, explains that the main characteristic of Feevale's research activities has been an important focus on meeting the demands of society. “Research is also closely linked to relevant actions for our community, being the basis of several programs to generate information and solutions to face regional problems” – he says – “We can mention projects that unfold in mapping and mitigation actions, environmental risks, research activities in inclusion and education, and diverse scientific investigations on aspects of the health of our population, among many others”.
The actions developed based on the Feevale University Social Responsibility Policy, which are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN), are shared in the Institution's 2021 Social Responsibility Report. Published annually, the material declares activities from the previous year and comparative indicators, with at least two other periods. The Report can be accessed at feevale.br/responsabilidadesocial.
